Obituary

TURNER, Solveig Maria Eriksson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the age of 79 after complications from surgery and the results of dementia and traumatic brain injury. Solveig Turner, daughter of Gertrud and Ture Eriksson, grew up in Finland, was awarded a prestigious one year Wien Scholarship to Brandeis University, and soon after returning to Finland and work in Switzerland, was surprised to be granted a Green Card by President Johnson as a result of a letter written by her college roommate to study in the U.S. and work at the United Nations. She met the love of her life, Michael Turner at an international party in New York City and he proposed two weeks later. They married the following year in 1967. After the birth of her daughter, Marjut, she worked at Northeastern University for 15 years, editing an Encyclopedia of International Higher Education, writing other books, directing a library resource center, and teaching. She enjoyed reading, skiing, bicycling, canoeing and gardening as well as her church and volunteering. Solveig will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 51 years, Michael Turner, daughter Marjut (Jonathan) Herzog, grandchildren Eliana and Sasha, and sister Britta Lindberg as well as her nieces and cousins. She was a small business owner, devoted to education, women's rights, environmental conservation and feeding the homeless. Family and friends will celebrate and remember Solveig's life by gathering for visiting hours and a funeral service at Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street West Roxbury, MA 02132, on Monday, December 10 at 12:00 PM.
