Obituary

LUDLOW ~ Shirley E. “Bubbie” (O’Malley) Fontaine, 88, of Ludlow, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in her sleep at home. She was born in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on February 7, 1930, the beloved daughter of the late Patrick O’Malley and Leda (Pelletier) Winn. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1948. In 1950, she married her late husband, Paul, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee where they raised their four children. Shirley was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and was active in many community organizations including the Aldenville Junior Athletic Club, the Chicopee Comp Boosters Club and the March of Dimes. Following her husband’s death, Shirley lived in Granby and Ludlow and participated in the Red Hat Club, the Ladies of Saint Anne and many groups at Keystone Commons in Ludlow. She had countless friends and was always ready with a warm smile, a joke and a genuine interest in the well-being of everyone. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Paul E. Fontaine who was Called Home on December 26, 1987. Shirley is survived by her four loving children, David (Karen) Fontaine of Wilbraham, Paula (Robert) Donais of Granby, Mary Fontaine (Mark Anderson) of Park Ridge, IL and James (Donna) Fontaine of Miamisburg, OH. Shirley is also survived by her ten cherished grandchildren; her seven cherished great-grandchildren; and her many dear extended family members who will all miss her dearly. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 10:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
