Obituary

Purcell, James Milton “Jimmy” Jr. of Weymouth, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on his birthday, November 26, 2018. He and his twin, the late Stephanie (Barton) Purcell, were the first born children to parents Carmen Theresa Purcell and James Milton Purcell Sr. on November 26, 1935 in Newton, Massachusetts.

Jimmy was raised in a close, loving family and as such was a man who possessed gifts of great faith and personal strength. He was a champion for those in need and sought to be a comfort to others. He loved to laugh and was a true friend to his housemates. Jimmy was blessed to have caring professionals who have been personally devoted to him for decades, including Steve Alden, Joyce Magachi, Tuha Johnson, Yrowda Gabriel, Gertrude Salmon, Marie Victor, Louise LaCombe and Barbara Demaris.

Jimmy is survived by his sisters Paula (Purcell) Kelley of Marlborough, April (Purcell) Barrett and her husband Dr. M. James Barrett of Potomac, Maryland, Mary (Burns) Purcell of Southborough, and over one hundred cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, James Purcell Sr. and Carmen Purcell of Newton Massachusetts, siblings Stephanie (Purcell) Barton of Needham, David Purcell of Newton, Steven Purcell of Southborough, and grandnephew Ryan Nocera of Mendon.

Jimmy loved being with his friends and extended family. He appreciated jazz and classical music, with “By the Beautiful Blue Danube”, a waltz by Johann Strauss II being his favorite classical work of all time. A loyal fan of old westerns, and ever the romantic, Jimmy could often be found with his friends faithfully monitoring the Hallmark channel to ensure that true love still conquers all!

Jimmy cherished outdoor excursions to enjoy the fine weather with a hot cup of coffee. Cape Cod was a favorite destination. During the holiday season, he and his housemates were thoroughly entertained by watching the Rockettes perform their Christmas show at Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Being with James Jr. was a privilege. He lived a humble life with a pure heart and wished only for those around him to experience peace and happiness.
