HOLLIS- Frederick W. Cole, Jr. of Hollis died at home under the loving care of his wife Christine on November 27, 2018 after a tenacious battle with cancer. Born June 21, 1944, Fred spent his youth traveling and learning around the world while his father served in the USAF but set down roots in Maine as a teenager before he enrolled at University of Maine. He would say he was always a Mainer, despite having had the misfortune of being “born away”.
Fred received great joy throughout his life from his friends and family. While preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice “Bee” Cole, his second wife, Barbara Steele Cole, and his father, Fred Cole, Sr., he is survived by his siblings and their families, Brian and Sandi Cole of Kissimmee, FL along with their twin sons Brian and Scott; Barbara and Steve Konan of Buxton, ME and their son Jeffrey. He is also survived by his two children, Carrie J. Cole of Blairsville, PA and Benjamin Cole and his wife Nancy of Tucson and their two children, Connor and Jacob, as well as his stepdaughter, Laura Putnam. Extended family and friends as close as family extend beyond the ability to name them individually, but were a vital part of Fred’s life.

The family has chosen to celebrate Fred’s life next summer at the Solstice, which would have been his 75th birthday. He much preferred Maine summers to winters.
Fred loved stories of all kinds, from those he read and taught in his days as an educator to those he shared with his close friends at the weekly Friday lunches. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salmon Falls Library, c/o Town of Hollis, 34 Town Farm Road, Hollis, Maine 04042
