Monahan, Col. Barry F., USAF (Retired) of Wellesley beloved husband of Corinne M. Monahan, father, grandfather, brother, and cousin, passed away on November 24, 2018 at the age of seventy-four. Barry was born on December 8, 1943 to his parents, the late Kenneth and Grace P. Monahan. One of three boys (Bruce, Barry and Brian), he was raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts and spent his youth playing hockey on Longfellow Pond. He was a graduate of Wellesley High School, Babson College where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration and the University of Southern California where he received a Master’s degree in International Relations.
He married, and is survived by, his wife of 42 years, Corinne M. Monahan his consummate companion, bike-riding-partner and caretaker, from whom he was inseparable; their four children Matt, Tim, Kara and Chris; daughters-in-law Suzanne, Vanessa and Melissa; son-in-law Randy and six grandchildren who knew him as “Papa” and who brought him immense joy -- Ben, Reece, Emily, Beau, Cassandra and Blair; his brother Brian and his wife Jean; and his cousin Judy.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve for over 32 years. He was a longtime employee of Wellesley College retiring as the Assistant Vice President of Administration and Community Affairs. He was a fixture of the community serving as a Wellesley Town Meeting Member, member and past president of the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce, member and past president of the Wellesley Club, member of the Board of Directors of Wellesley Senior Living Inc., and member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of DARE Family Services.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Thursday November 29 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley Hills at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Wednesday, November 28, from 4-8pm. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
