TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Florence L. (Silva) Cook, age 90, the matriarch of a large well known Tewksbury based family, died peacefully in the care of her children and the staff of Grace House in Windham, NH, Sunday morning, November 25. She was the beloved wife Robert E. Cook Sr., who died in 1987, and mother of James P. Cook, who died in 2004.
She was born in Cambridge, July 14, 1928, one of six children of the late Bernard and Martha (Hamilton) Silva, and raised in Cambridge. She graduated from Cambridge High and Latin with the Class of 1946.
After her marriage, she and Bob moved to Chester Street in Tewksbury in 1959 to raise their six children. She was an active member of St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury.
In addition to her duties as a mother, she worked at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford as a civilian employee accountant in the base finance department. She retired in December 2007.
Florence devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was happiest when surrounded by family.
She leaves five children, Jeanne Bouvier and her husband Jerry of Salem, NH, Robert E. Cook and his wife Judy (Lorange) of Derry, NH, Cheryl Muse and her significant other, Steve Spooner of Acton, ME, Kevin F. Cook and his wife Sylvia (Balanzategui) of Tewksbury, Lisa Ditty and her husband John of Goffstown, NH; eleven grandchildren, Jason Bouvier and his wife Tami (Engel) of Salem, NH, Jeremy Bouvier and his wife Dee (Maguire) of Manchester, NH, Michelle Muse and her significant other Scott Garrett of Alfred, ME, Lawrence Muse Jr. of Alfred, ME, Adam Cook and his wife Beth (Marshall) of Merrimack, NH, Robert Cook of Wilmington, Keith Cook of Methuen, Amber Cook of Fitchburg, Zachery Cupo and his wife Chelsea (McCarthy) of Peabody, Matthew Cook of Wilmington, and Nolan Ditty of Goffstown, NH; eleven great grandchildren; Taylor, Carrie, Rachel, Emily, Miranda, Jamie, Norah, Addison, Brady, Ayden and Jaxon; a brother, Joseph Silva and his wife Mary of AZ; a sister, Barbara Lemaitre of Dracut; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Silva of Reading, Carolyn Silva of VA; was predeceased by her great granddaughter, Aubrielle; brothers, Atty. Bernard Silva, Francis Silva; and sister Agnes Carty.
Visiting hours Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Friday, Nov. 30, at 9:00 from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury.
