Obituary

Duncan “D.A.” MacKinnon, 74, a resident of Medway for over 40 years, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham where he was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 28, 1944 he was the son of the late Dougald and Margaret (MacLean) MacKinnon, also of Cape Breton.

“D.A.”, as he was known to his friends and family, was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a true story teller, and his stories of life growing up in Nova Scotia are legendary. D.A. and his wife Carrie just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past August. As “Dad”, he was always available to help with advice on anything. As “Papa Duncan”, he enjoyed making his three grandchildren laugh at silly jokes - and he’d frequently tell anyone that would listen about their many successes in school, at the rink and on the field.

D.A. worked hard for over 50 years at Waltham Lumber. D.A. loved hockey and was an avid Montreal Canadians fan. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting the racetrack with his family and friends .

D.A. is survived by his wife Carrie (McDonald) MacKinnon and their five children: Brian Duncan MacKinnon and his wife Melissa and their children Sidney and Jake Duncan of Blackstone, Lisa MacKinnon of Milford, Kelly Coady and her husband Thomas of Milford, Scott MacKinnon and his wife Kate and their son Damon of Plainville, Karen MacKinnon of Franklin.

He will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters Mary MacFarlane (late husband Malcom) of Medway, John (wife Elaine) MacKinnon of Watertown, Catherine (husband Peter) Smith of Natick, Neil (wife Sandra) MacKinnon of Medway, James MacKinnon of Watertown, Jessie MacKinnon of Watertown, Jeanette (husband Jackie) Campbell of Port Hood, N.S., Sandy (wife Jane) MacKinnon of Port Hood, N.S, and Dan MacKinnon also of Port Hood N.S.. He was predeceased by his brother John Duncan MacKinnon. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway on Tuesday, November 27 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
