Gary Spencer Courtoy, 71, of Tifton passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Legacy Village in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Brantley Seymour officiating. Mr. Courtoy will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 25, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Troy Tapp, Clay Tapp, Carson Tapp, Shaun Courtoy, Donnie Gay and Dewayne Haman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Tifton Bass Busters.
Born January 22, 1947 in Tifton, Mr. Courtoy was the son of the late Rev. Earl Courtoy and Victoria Beard Courtoy. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Terry Randall and Nancy Courtoy. Before retiring, he was the Assistant Area Engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was co-founder of Tifton Bass Busters and was a member for over 30 years and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Courtoy is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Gerri” Shiver Courtoy of Tifton; two sons, Gregory Sherman "Greg" Courtoy and his fiance’, Jeannie Meeler, and Lance Avery Courtoy, all of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Renee Courtoy of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Phylis and Jim Willis of Cobb; six grandchildren, Brittany Daniels, Amber Estes, Carly Courtoy, Shane Courtoy, Jayden Courtoy and Kristy Meeler; and five great-grandchildren, Dalton Courtoy, Riley Schofill, Dylan Estes, Sawyer Daniels and Devin Estes.
