Dorothy J. Hanks
Dorothy J. Hanks, 85, was ushered into Heaven on Tuesday, November 19, 2018, surrounded with the love and spirit of her family.
She was born on December 3, 1932, in Dows, Iowa, and was the one of six children. She met her husband to be at a roller rink in 1952, and was married May 2, 1954. They made their first home in Santa Paula, and had four children.
Dorothy lived a life full of love and devotion to God and her wonderfully large family. She was a member of Westminster and First Presbyterian Churches, and was actively involved in many church gatherings. She loved baking, doll collecting, and especially loved sewing, whether it be Christmas pj’s for the grandkids, or making jackets for charity with her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Billy V. Hanks; grandson, Tyler Hanks; granddaughter, Rebecca Rose Hanks; great-grandson, Homer “Dude” Barajas; brothers, Eugene Fox and Ralph “Ken” Fox; and parents, Cora Booth and Robert Fox.
Leaving to mourn are her four dedicated children: Vivian Berna, David Hanks, Daniel Hanks, and Victoria Hanks; her sisters, Darlene Morris and Coralee Fox; her brother, John Fox; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and family friends.
The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who tended to her and to all those who sent their love and prayers. Dorothy was the rock, strength and glue of our family. We will forever miss her but we all have peace knowing she is home at last, resting in the arms of our Lord!
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am – 11:00 am on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 East Main Street, Ventura, with Chapel services to immediately begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial Services to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura.
