Obituary


John Thomas Sullivan of Bellingham, MA, formerly of Manchester, CT, died Saturday, November 17, 2018, at home with his daughter and son-in-law. He was married to M. Christine Sullivan for 59 years, until she passed in 2010. John was the father of Glenna Laverdiere and her husband Marc of Bellingham, MA; John and his wife Sue of Bolton, CT; Brian and his wife Lee of Marstons Mills, MA; Terry, who passed in 2014, and his wife Tricia, formerly of Bristol, CT; Kevin and his wife Cara of Sandwich, MA, and Tim and his wife Sheri of Tolland, CT. John was the grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. John is survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Raber of East Windsor, CT, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Westerly, RI on February 26, 1926, he was the son of James and Victoria (Whewell) Sullivan of Pawcatuck, CT, and the brother of Harold Sullivan, James Sullivan, and Kathleen King. A 1943 graduate of Stonington (CT) High School, he earned a diploma in aircraft and engine mechanics at the Allen School of Aeronautics in Hillsgrove, RI. He secured his Civil Aeronautics Administration aircraft and engine license in 1952. John worked on aircraft engines at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT, then automobiles, eventually moving into automobile sales at Moriarty Brothers in Manchester, CT. A member of St. James Parish in Manchester, CT for many years, John joined St. Blaise Parish in Bellingham, MA in 2009.

John’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 19, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Blaise Church, 1158 South Main Street, Bellingham, MA. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., prior to the Mass celebrating his life.
