Obituary

Ila C. (Gaspar) Phelan, 85 of Beverly, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Lafayette Rehabilitation in Marblehead. She was the devoted wife of the late Paul E. Phelan.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Elsie (Lermond) Gaspar. She was a graduate of Pepperell High School Class of ‘51 and a graduate of the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Ila worked as a registered nurse for 42 years for the Beverly Hospital until her retirement in 1996. She was devoted to her family, extended family, friends and her pet cats. In her free time she enjoyed knitting, the beach and picking strawberries.
She is survived by her daughters, Hope E. Phelan of Beverly and Paula S. Frieser and her husband Richard of Peabody, her sons, Andrew W. Phelan of Peabody and David B. Phelan of Beverly. She also leaves four grandchildren, Paul Masse of Salem, Matthew Masse and his wife Alycia of Peabody, Megan Thomann & Travis Thomann both of Beverly, two great-grandchildren, Dustin Masse and Julianna Masse, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Phyllis Gaspar.
Relatives and friends are invited to her calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
