Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Irma (Franceschina) Chretien, 94, a longtime resident of Olea Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, November 17, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Grattan Street in Chicopee on October 11, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late Gervasio and Gilda (Orsatti) Franceschina. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School in 1942 and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. During her leisure time, Irma enjoyed knitting, cultivating her beautiful flower gardens and being a doting grandmother. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Leo J. Chretien who was Called Home on May 8, 1985. She leaves her three loving children, Louise A. Lafleur and her husband, Paul, of Belchertown, Linda J. Kostek and her husband, Kenneth, of South Hadley, and Alan L. Chretien and his wife, Linda, of Westfield; her eight cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Michael Lafleur and his wife, Cheryl, Janice Stanley and her husband, Harold, Gina Ayers and her husband, Greg, Donald Lafleur and his wife, Dawn, Christine Brown and her husband, Charles, Catherine Simino and her husband, Andrew, Edward Kostek and his wife, Michelle, and Jonathan Chretien and his fiancée, Athena Tapases; her fifteen cherished great-grandchildren; her six cherished great-great grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Chretien and Franceschina families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her four dear brothers, Angelo, Renzo, John and Louis Franceschina. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre ~ Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
