Obituary

Age 94 of North St. Paul.
Passed away peacefully on November 15, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Philomene; his parents, Paul and Mae; and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his brother, James; his children, Paul (Emily Sherman), Mary, Karen (Ron) Bohnert, Peter (Ingrid), Joseph (Cherie Flandrick), James (Denise), Karl (Anna); fifteen grandchildren; and one great grandson. His life journey took him from a shoebox bed by a woodstove in Edgemont, SD, to a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Detroit, to a 38-year career in the Industrial Tape Division at 3M that was highlighted by his role in the Skylab Repair Mission in 1969. However, his greatest success was in the lives he touched. He was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Parish from the time he moved to North St. Paul in 1956 until the final sacraments. He donated a flood of blood to the Red Cross, and after his retirement from 3M, he spent 25 years as “Mr. Thursday” at the Hill-Murray athletic office and often sang the national anthem at the school’s hockey games. Always upbeat, optimistic and outgoing, he had a smile and a friendly word for everyone he met. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday (November 24, 2018) 10:00 AM at CHURCH OF ST. PETER, 2600 N. Margaret St., North St. Paul with Visitation Friday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the CHURCH and one hour prior to the Mass. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Feed My Starving Children, Hill-Murray School, or St. Peter’s Capital Fund.
