Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Marcia R. (Ribeiro) Costa, 93, a longtime resident of Kings Highway in West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, November 9, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life from Mount Saint Vincent Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on July 27, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Casmiro and Maria (de Jesus Lopes) Ribeiro. She was born in Holyoke and, at the age of two, returned to Portugal where she was raised. She returned to Springfield at the age of 20 where she lived until moving to Ludlow in 1988. She lived in Ludlow for several years and moved to West Springfield in 2002. She was employed for many years as an assembler for Springfield Wire Company and retired in 1987. She loved to cook, was an avid gardener and was often seen walking in her neighborhood. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Manuel Costa who was Called Home on October 27, 2009. They were married on September 8, 1945 at the Church of Fornos da Maceira Dão in Fagile, Portugal and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Lidia R. Looney Craven and her husband, Ken Craven, of Chicopee and Daniel R. Costa and his wife, Sheri, of Enfield, CT; her cherished granddaughter, Erin M. Looney and her wife, Allyson Looney, of Stoneham, MA; her cherished great-grandson, Cassidy B. Looney; her dear sister, Leonilde Amaral of Chicopee; her dear brother, Joaquim Ribeiro and his wife, Maria, of Chicopee; her three dear sisters-in law, Irene (Paulo) Ribeiro of Ludlow, Anuciacão Ribeiro of Springfield and Manuela da Costa of Springfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Costa and Ribeiro families. Besides her beloved parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers, Alfredo, Francisco, Formino, Americo, Manuel, Anacleto, Adelino and Jose Ribeiro. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, November 17, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 63 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089. Her burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
