Obituary

Enrique “Henry” Guerra, Jr., 60, of Dorchester, MA passed away peacefully at the Seasons Hospice in Milton on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, after a long and hard-fought battle with kidney and liver failure. He was born to Virginia J. Quinonez and Enrique S. Guerra and raised in West Los Angeles.
Henry was a wild child in his youth, and in 1991 it was the ministry of a church in LA's Skid Row area and Union Rescue Mission that helped Henry gain his sobriety and introduced him to his personal Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith helped him radically transform his life, and he began working with the mission for a number of years after he successfully completed his treatment with them.
Henry's transformation and devotion to his faith brought him all the way across the country to Boston in 1995 to work and help revitalize the Boston Rescue Mission as a guest coordinator. Henry's own experience helped him have a powerful ministry among the people experiencing homelessness and drug-addiction and was his life's proudest work. Henry maintained his sobriety for over 27 years and he was a beloved member of the Christ the King Dorchester congregation.
Henry leaves behind his father Enrique S. Guerra, siblings Sally, Margaret, Laucina, Maria, Enrique, Gustavo, Alfredo, and Carlos, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Virginia Quinonez, his brother, Leonard, and his sister, Gloria. He also leaves behind many dear friends, including Linda Olofernes and her family who were his caretakers in the final years of his life.
A Memorial Services will be held at Christ the King Dorchester, 10 Parish Street, Dorchester, MA on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 6 pm.
