George F. Purnell, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at his home in Charlestown following a 4 week illness with cancer. He was 71 years of age.
George was born in Boston on October 22, 1947, a son of the late William E. Purnell and Josephine M. (McManus) Purnell. He grew up in Dorchester for a short time before moving back to Charlestown while attending Boston Public Schools and graduating from high school. He also received his Bachelors Degree from Northeastern University. George worked as a real estate agent for Boardwalk Properties in Boston for over 8 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially the quality time with his grandson Ryan while figuring out the mechanics of computers.
George is the beloved husband of Catherine R. "Cathy" (Marino) Purnell. He is the devoted father of Sherina Pahlm and her husband Brian and the late Kerry Ann Marino. He is the loving Papi to Brendan Lynch and Ryan Pahlm. He is the beloved brother of Anne Phillips, Gale Steeves, Michael Purnell and the late Joan Walters, Henry Purnell, William Purnell and Daniel Purnell. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend George's visiting hours on Monday, November 12, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. with his Funeral Service at 7:30 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial is private.
