Obituary

Roger Briggs, 66, formerly of Sharon passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018, after a prolonged illness. Rog grew up in Sharon, graduating from Sharon High School in 1970. When asked (which was often) his dimensions he would say he was 6’5” and “liked to call himself” 295. Neither of those were true. He was closer to 6’7” and was unlikely to have been 295 post high school. He loved to play golf before his health failed and was a member of Sharon Country Club. That 9th tee box was one of his favorite places, assuming he was comfortably ahead in his current match. His inventive friends at “The Club” called him Big; he generally answered to it with a smile. When he wasn’t playing golf he drove a truck and loved the open road. He could talk directions and gas prices for days and did so often. Also a dog lover, he bread many litters of English Setter puppies and always seemed to have a dog with him. At one point he had a 10 pound beagle who accompanied him everywhere and, in his words, “helped keep him safe.” It was just as funny to see as it sounds.
He is survived by his daughter Alison Briggs, of Maricopa, AZ, his son, James Briggs and his wife Lisa of Salem, NH, and his ex-wife Susan (Miranda) Briggs of Roslindale. It may not be customary to mention an ex-wife in an obituary, but he called her “the best ex-wife a guy could ask for” until the day he died and credited her for everything positive about his children; His two grandsons, the sources of continuous smiles for Rog, Rowan and William Briggs; his sister Sharon Briggs Lainhart and her husband Todd of Harvard, MA; his sister Carolyn Briggs of Florida; his brother Bob Briggs and his wife Paula of Florida; his brother Barton Briggs and his wife Susan of Duxbury.
Rog was not a man to dwell on the negative therefore we’ll celebrate his life and tell any and all stories on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Atkinson Country Club, Atkinson, NH from 12pm to 3pm. All relatives and friends are more than welcome. If you do attend and wear a tie to that event he’d be disappointed. Golf attire at most would be his preferred dress code and the promise you’ll have a Tanqueray and Tonic or 6 in his honor.
He would not have lived as long as he did if not for the incredible work of the people at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to continue the truly incredible and life changing work they do every day. https://www.bidmc.org/give
To close we know he’d want to tell you the following: always take a golf cart, if it’s free don’t ask questions, when you start drinking, stop doing everything else and don’t sweat the small stuff because life is too short.
