James H. “Jimmy” Gordon, 93, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at Shady Acres Nursing Home in Douglas, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 16, 2005, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Gordon was born February 26, 1912, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to the late William H. and Mae Patton Gordon. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life, moving from Bainbridge to play semi-pro baseball and he played pro baseball for the Fitzgerald Pioneers in 1949. Mr. Gordon was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills and was a former Cabinet Maker with Parkway Cabinets. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was part of the invasion force of Normandy. Mr. Gordon coached little league baseball, was a Score Keeper for the softball leagues and he was an Umpire for Fitzgerald High School. He was an active member, Deacon and former church treasurer at Callie Garbutt Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son: Rudy Gordon of Douglas; granddaughter: Laura N. Gordon of Douglas; two brothers: Herschel Gordon of Cleveland, GA and Woodrow Gordon of Woodbury, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene Mims Gordon, 3 brothers and a sister.
