Obituary

Roland J. “Alcide” Trahan 99, of Franklin, died peacefully, at home, in the Benchmark Senior Living at Forge Hill, with his family at his side, Thursday October 25, 2018 following an illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Farrell) Trahan, who died in 2005.

Born July 22, 1919, in Attleboro, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hetu) Trahan, he was a resident of Franklin since 1952.

Roland was raised and educated in Woonsocket, RI and was a retired supervisor for the former American Felt Company. He also worked as a lab technician for the GAF companies.

A proud American, he served in the United States Army during WWII, he attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade and served with Company B 6TH Combat Engineer Battalion. Roland was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Luzon Campaign Star, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in February 1946.

Roland enjoyed spending time with his family, reading newspapers and watching the Boston Red Sox.

He was a member of the Commanders Club, the American Legion, and St. Mary’s Church, Franklin.

Roland is survived by his children, Patricia A. Trahan of Franklin, Robert R. Trahan and his wife Jean of Palmer, Roger J. Trahan and his wife Roberta of Franklin and Eileen C. Murphy and her husband James of Natick. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Susan Melo, Deborah Melo-Hare, Kimberlee MacFarlane, Kristen Kinsey, Jennifer Andrews, Stephen Trahan, Matthew Trahan, Lauren Kloos, Meghan Burdett, Erin Murphy, and 9 great grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Leo, Arthur and Edward Trahan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday October 30th in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral home 33 Cottage St. at 10AM.

Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.

Calling hours are Monday from 4-8PM.
