Obituary

Manuel “Manny” Souza, 93, died peacefully at his North Truro home on Thursday, Oct 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of his beloved and devoted wife Virginia (Soares) Souza. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Born in Provincetown, Manny was the son of Manuel P. and Georgianna C. Souza. He graduated from Provincetown High School in 1944. Manny served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Devens, MA, Fort Knox, KY and Fort Lewis, WA before his honorable discharge. Upon his return, he met and married Virginia in 1949.

Manny worked numerous jobs including Anybody’s Market and the First National before commencing his 30-year career with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he proudly served many Cape families by protecting their futures and serving as their trusted insurance advisor, retiring as Agency Sales Manager. In his semi-retirement, he worked at the Downs Insurance Agency and at Bayberry Garden Center.

Through the years, Manny served as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Chairman of the Truro School Committee, Trustee for the Wellfleet Savings Bank and Trustee and Corporator for the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Rotary.

Manny enjoyed travel, gardening, pets, birdwatching, and the Red Sox. Most of all, he enjoyed his family. His outgoing nature, candor, sense of humor, devotion, and strong expression of the love and importance of family will always be treasured.

In addition to his wife Virginia, he will be fondly remembered by his sons, Craig Souza and wife, Debra of North Truro, Mark Souza and wife Lenore of Westford, Paul Souza and wife Debra of Truro, as well as daughter Eileen (Souza) Babineau and her fiancé David Pecinovsky of Plymouth. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren to whom he was a beloved Vovo.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown on Friday, October 26th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday October 27th at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St, Provincetown. Burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Truro will be private.
