Obituary

On October 18, 2018 Stanley C. Scheier (Charley) of Londonderry, NH passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. Charley was born in the Bronx, NYC in 1931. Growing up, he worked at his father’s gas stations learning how to fix cars and other machinery. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Lowell Textile Institute where he graduated with a degree in Textile Engineering in 1953. Charley then served 2 years in the US Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. After his honorable discharge, he attended graduate school at MIT where he earned a Master’s Degree in 1957.

Charley spent many years working as a textile engineer at various locations on the east coast. In 1978, he turned his hobby of clocks and his knack for fixing things into his vocation and he opened the first of several stores, including The House of Clocks in Needham, MA. Over the next 30 years he built a strong and loyal customer base as he operated his business, The Clockworks, in various communities throughout the metro Boston area.

Charley loved meeting and talking to people. He had a wide range of interests and loved a good, intelligent but friendly debate. He was an avid bridge player and loved reading, classical music, and old movies.

Charley was predeceased by wives, Elaine Anderson Scheier and Lydia Hamilton Scheier. He is survived by his sons, Erik Scheier of Cambridge, MA and Allen Scheier and his wife Gregoria of Haverhill, MA; and his sister, Frances Klender of Springfield, MO. Charley is also survived by his dear friend Elaine Kennedy of Londonderry, NH.

The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to all of his hospice caregivers. Special thanks and appreciation to Francisca Munoz and Carmen Munoz Ross for all of their wonderful and loving care over the past year. Charley was well taken care of.

The family will host a celebration of Charley’s life at the home of Allen and Gregoria Scheier in Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charley’s memory may be made to the Hospice Services of the Visiting Nurse Association of Manchester & Southern New Hampshire. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry, NH are assisting the family with arrangements.
