BUXTON- Zbigniew Gruchala better known as Ziggy, age 58, passed away on October 17, 2018 at the Gosnell Hospice House. He was born in Gdansk, Poland on June 26,1960, a son of late Waclaw and Marta (Zaworska) Gruchala. Ziggy has 5 older siblings- Jan, Czeslaw, Danuta, Halina and Jerzy. Ziggy served in the Polish Air Force. Ziggy came to the United States in 1984 with lifelong friend Tadeusz Falgowski. He became a United Stated citizen in 1985 and married Marianne Newell in 1987. He worked as a commercial fisherman then he established his carpentry business known as Ziggy & Co., which he succeeded in for the remainder of his career. He built a beautiful home in Buxton, Maine where he resided for 15 years. Ziggy enjoyed horseshoes, fishing, camp fires and family. Ziggy was also a loyal Patriots football fan. Ziggy is survived by his daughter Sonia (Gruchala) Winslow and her husband Joseph, his son David Gruchala, a granddaughter Hannah Winslow and four stepchildren- Tricia Fernald, Elizabeth Woods, Robert Woods and James Woods.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday Oct. 23, from 12 noon – 1 PM, followed by a 1 PM Roman Catholic funeral service at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Buxton.
