Donald P. Robinson, 74, loving husband of Angenette Nibecker, passed away on December 10, 2005.
Born May 7, 1931 in Burlington, NC to Elizabeth Parks and Donald Edward Robinson M.D.., he launched his education at Asheville School, then to Princeton University and MIT, where he earned degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. These degrees coupled with a lifelong interest in the sea led to work at Electric Boat, where he served as Chief Cost Engineer and Head of Submarine Restoration. I n 1967 he began a new career at Mystic Seaport where he flourished for 25 years, first as Deputy Director of Administration, then to Director of Ships and Restoration, where he was able to use his engineering, management and diplomacy skills. His love of work extended beyond the office walls into the yard and onto the decks. He finished his career as Director of Long Range Planning and Special Projects.
He married Angenette Nibecker on April 3, 1954, becoming ‘the happiest couple you will ever meet’. In addition to Angie, he is survived by his four sons Chip, Geoffrey, Karl and David; daughter-in-laws Lisa, Gabrielle and Susan; grandchildren Aeren, Karl, Geoffrey, Cooper and Marley and his sister Nancy R. Posel.
Never content to be a passenger, he always had a hand in the direction things took, whether it was sailing, fighting fires or town government. Sailing and the sea were his life's passion. His devotion to sailing influenced all who came within hailing distance.
We thank the steadfast friends and caregivers who have lent a hand for the past few years.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic on Friday at 11am. There are no visiting hours.
