Manchester- Helen E. (Harrington) O'Connell died on October 16, 2018 in her 102nd year. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Lawrence D. O’Connell in 1997, and by her parents, John Harrington in 1918 and Helen Ford Harrington in 1964. Born in and a resident of Brooklyn, NY for most her life (until she moved to Manchester, NH in 2006), Helen was her husband’s close companion throughout his military career in World War II and subsequent practice of law for many decades. She and Larry were active in supporting the charitable works of the Brooklyn Catholic diocese and of St. Patrick’s Church in their long-time neighborhood of Bay Ridge. She is survived by her dear nephew, Gerard J. Hevern, MD and his wife, Donna, who cared for her throughout the last decade of her life, by her godson and nephew, Fr. Vincent Hevern, SJ, of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, and by multiple other O’Connell nieces and nephews. Her family particularly thanks the wonderful staff of Birch Hill Manor for their kindness and devoted care of Helen for so many years.
Calling hours will be on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10 am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Corner of Webster & Hemlock Sts.
Burial will take place in the family plot of Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
