Trining was born on November 12, 1940 in Albuera, Leyte, Philippines. She married Ramon Espinosa when the two met in Cebu City where they raised their 8 children. Trining managed the home while her husband was often away for work as a ship seaman. She was an excellent cook and ventured in sari-sari store, dressmaking and as a beautician; she made all her children’s clothes and sold RTW (ready to wear) house dresses and custom made clothing. Trining experienced many ups and downs in her life. When her husband's work transferred the whole family to Manila, it was an easier life for the family, but the calamities of constant earthquakes and flooding in Manila was too much to bear for a full time mother raising 8 children. The death of her eldest child at a tender age of 16 was the last straw. This caused a long time battle of nervous breakdowns and caused her to move back to Cebu with the whole family. At the age of 43, she became a widow. Determined to raise her 7 children on her own, she continued her dressmaking business and opened a small restaurant to feed her family. In 1991, Trini moved to Houston, Texas, where she lived with her daughter, Julieta. The weather in Houston did not play well with Trining. Her arthritis continued to bother her and finally in 1995, she moved to Minnesota and lived with her daughter, Delia and helped in raising Del’s 2 daughters. She also petitioned to bring her two youngest children, Russell and Miriam, to the U.S. Every year, Trining would visit her remaining family in the Philippines until the year 2000, when she suffered a stroke while visiting the Philippines. She still continued to visit the Philippines but every time she would visit, she would end up having several more mini strokes. Because of this, her heart had weakened over the years and her kidneys began to fail. Her most recent visit to the Philippines was in December 2016 when she went home for the last time to bury her son, Onick. Before she passed away, Trining was on hospice care for 2 months as a result of several medical complications. Trining will be remembered as a fighter and a devoted mother and grandmother. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul, MN.
