John L. Harrington, age 81, of Billerica, formerly of Woburn, passed away December 9th, following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine E. (Laundre). Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Mary (McMaster) and John Harrington.
Mr. Harrington, known as “Lonnie” to his friends and family was a graduate of Woburn High School. Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1942 to 1945 as a Staff Sergeant and saw action in New Guinea during the Pacific Theater Campaign. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, John returned home to continue his education at Bentley College where he graduated with degree in accouning and finance. John went on to work for the H.P. Hood Company of Charlestown for the next 45 years, where he served as the Chief Accountant and Corporate Controler.
Mr. Harrington was also very active along with his late wife in the starting of the Central Middlesex Assoc. for Retarded Citizens. He served on its board of directors for a number of years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a past member of Woburn´s American Legion Post 101. He enjoyed fishing and candlepin bowling.

Mr. Harrington is Surived by his children, Ruthann Koenig of CA, John L. Harrington Jr. of KS, Marc E. Harrington of Woburn, Michael G. and Rita E. Harrington both of Billerica, and Neal R. Harrington of VA. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren and two loving great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers, Bernard Harrington of Woburn, D. Edward Harrington of Burlington, and sisters, Claire Strong of FL and Jean Boudreau of NH.
His funeral will be from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Tuesday, at 8 AM. Followed by funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
