Obituary

Dennis, Clare Hailer at home with her family by her side Clare Hailer Dennis passed away on October 5, 2018 after a short illness. Beloved wife of Richard (Dick) Dennis for 69 years, she was the loving mother of Baby Boy Dennis (’50), Leslie A. Dennis of Quincy, Janet H. Dennis of Hingham, Richard J. Dennis, Jr. and his wife Linda of Canaan, VT, Mark H Dennis and his husband Larry Keane of Arlington, MA and Clare H. Dennis-Gregory and her partner Michael Williams of South Carolina. Her grandson, Richard James Dennis III (Richie) brought her immense joy.

Clare was born in Scarsdale, NY on Feb. 23, 1926, where she lived until age seven, when her family moved back to their native Massachusetts. They settled in Newton where she attended Newton schools. It was there she met her life-long friends, the “Groupers.” She cherished her summers spent at Green Harbor, Marshfield, where she made more enduring friendships. Clare was a natural athlete who loved swimming, tennis, and golf. She was a proud Regis graduate, where she majored in biology. In her 40’s, she went on to earn a teaching certificate in special Ed from Boston College, and got her real estate broker’s license. She was always a student at heart.

Daughter of the late Florin and Florence (Cleary) Hailer, Sister of the late Sonny (and Marion) Hailer of Scituate, Janet and the late Cornelius McGrath, of Atlantis, Florida, the late Robert (and Nathalie) Hailer of Wellesley and Donald and Sheila Hailer of Falmouth. Also survived by many loving and much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

After marrying the love of her life, Dickie, they made their homes in Jamaica Plain, Newton, Scituate and most recently, Hingham. Clare lived a beautiful, faith-filled life, full of love of family and of friends. She considered herself to be very blessed and gracefully and fearlessly faced her passing into eternal life.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Clare’s life during visiting hours on Thursday October 11, 2018 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, MA. 02025.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 12, 2018 at 11 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St. Scituate, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
