Obituary

BRADFORD – Louis J. Skarbek, 92, of Bradford, Mass. passed Monday, October 1, 2018 with his loving family at his side. His beloved wife, Margaret (Savage) Skarbek, passed in 2016.

He leaves a son, Thomas J. Skarbek and his wife Kathleen of Bradford; a daughter, Jean M. Chandler and her husband Mark, also of Bradford; 3 grandchildren, Marissa Chandler and Thomas and Joseph Skarbek; a brother, Stanley Skarbek and his wife Josephine of Boston; and several nephews and nieces. He also leaves his good friend, Archie Holmes of Fayville. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine Skarbek and Gladys Hanieski and by his brothers, John and Edward Skarbek.

He was born and raised in Oxford, the youngest child of Joseph and Sophia (Chmielewicz) Skarbek. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1944 and later obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from UMASS Amherst and then his Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Mass. Institute of Technology in Boston. He lived in Burlington, Mass. for many years before moving to Bradford 20 years ago.

He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving as a Staff Sergeant in Europe. He was one of the liberators of the Dachau Concentration Camp.

Mr. Skarbek owned and operated 2 companies: he was the vice president of American Power Devices in Andover and was the president of AMKEY, also in Andover. He was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish in Bradford.

The funeral will be held Friday, October 5, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, with the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council performing the military honors. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:15 AM Friday, October 5, at the funeral home.
