Obituary

Stranieri, Antonio “Tony” – age 78, a 51-year resident of Woburn, passed away on Sept. 30. He was the beloved husband of the late Vittoria (Fulciniti) Stanieri.

Born in Vena di Maida, Italy, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Anna (Peta) Stranieri. Mr. Stranieri was educated in Italy and served in the Italian military. His family came to the United States, where he became a laborer and brick layer, helping to construct many of the area universities. His family settled in Woburn, where he loved sitting underneath his grapevines and chatting with his friends and neighbors, and any people passing by. Tony loved the Horn Pond area, and was a member of the St. Anthony’s Club in Woburn. His children recalled many occasions when people they ran into instantly recognized their father as an acquaintance, or remembered meeting him through a friend.

In his spare time, he loved dancing and spending time with his girlfriend Sheila. Tony especially loved traveling, playing cards with friends, including Italian card games, bowling, bocce and watching Boston sports with his sons and loved ones. Remembered by his children for his many kindnesses, he was an ardent animal lover, gardener, and loved to play Keno and the slot machines. He also enjoyed an occasional Limoncello with friends. Most importantly, he cherished his family and his companionship with his daughter, Anna, but most of all he will miss his walks with his 3 “side-cats”, Oreo, Sunkiss and Sidra.

In addition to his girlfriend Sheila, and his daughter Anna Stanieri of Woburn, Mr. Stranieri leaves behind his sons: Salvatore and Frank Stranieri, both of Woburn, and his siblings Domenica, Elizabeth, and Francesco Stanieri, all of Italy. He was pre-deceased by siblings Angela Stranieri and Domenic Stranieri. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Italy, who he loved dearly.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a Visitation at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Thursday, October 4, from 5-8 PM, and again on Friday at 9:30AM followed by a Graveside Service in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. In lieu of flowers, Tony’s wish would be that you perform an act of kindness in his memory, or donate to your local “no-kill” animal shelter.
