Obituary

LIMINGTON – Joan “Joanie” Keene Anderson, 84, died on September 30, 2018, at her home, from Alzheimer's, a disease she lived with for 10 years.

She was born in Madison Maine on July 27, 1934, daughter of the late Earle L Keene and Geneva (Worster) Keene. Joanie graduated from Gorham High School in 1952. She took classes at USM earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Welfare. Joanie started her lifelong career working with special needs people at Pineland in Pownel Maine, from there she worked as a teacher to the children attending classes at Pride Training School in South Portland, Maine and later at IDC ( Infant Development Center) also in South Portland, Maine.

Joanie was an active member of the Portland Eagles 565. She was also a candlepin bowler, participating in a Thursday Night Lady’s League at the “Big 20” in Scarborough for many years. Joanie was an avid gambler, playing Bingo several times per week as well as making frequent trips to the casinos in Las Vegas, Connecticut and more recently Bangor and Oxford. She enjoyed the puzzles in the daily newspaper waiting each morning, with pen in hand, for it to arrive. You could usually find a card table set up with a jigsaw puzzle waiting to be finished somewhere in her home. Joanie also like to have a cocktail or two while listening/dancing to live music in the Greater Portland area.
