NEW BEDFORD -- Edna B. Harrington, 87, of New Bedford died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at the Southeastern Health and Rehab Center after a long illness. She was the widow of John F. Harrington.
A daughter of the late Ralph and Florence Kershaw, she was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
She was employed in sales at a variety of local businesses, including Lloyds, The Melody Shop and Star Store.
Mrs. Harrington devoted her life to upgrading her education through private study in the areas of literature, art, world history, archaeology and geology. She loved to travel, and maintained an alert and inquisitive mind throughout her life.
She was a former Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher, and was active in several women's groups within her church and community.
For 19 years, she was as a tour director for the YWCA Gadabouts, and also presented slide shows and art and history talks to schools, libraries and nursing homes.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Harrington of New Bedford; two sons, Mark Harrington and his wife, Photoula, of Dartmouth, and John Harrington of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Mary Hathaway; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was a sister of the late Raymond Kershaw and Winifred Muirhead.
Her memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2005, in the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 635 Purchase St. New Bedford, Ma.
Visiting hours at the WILSON CHAPEL, 479 County St. N.B. Saturday from 4-7 P.M. Remembrances may be made in her name to her church or the charity of one's choice. Burial is private.
