Obituary

George R. Parker, Sr., age 88, a longtime resident of Winchester, passed away on September 23, 2018. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Gloria Jean (Carlson) until her passing in 2012.

Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of the late George and Mabel (Delmedge) Parker, and was raised and educated in Billerica. Mr. Parker attended Northeastern University, where he was placed in an internship at Jordan Marsh, where he established his career and remained there as a merchandise buyer for many years.

He and Gloria settled in Winchester to raise their family. An avid Boston sports fan, George also enjoyed coaching Winchester Little League baseball. He was also an active member of the Second Congregational Church in Winchester.

In his spare time, George could be found enjoying fried clams and relaxing with his family in Orleans on the Cape.

Mr. Parker is survived by his children: George R. Parker, Jr. of Winchester, John Parker and his wife Cyndi of Manchester, NH, Linda DeRosa and her husband Ronald of Dracut. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Keith Parker, Brianna and Nicholas DeRosa. John R. Parker, Jr., and Julia E. Parker.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Fri., Sept. 28 from 4-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held in the Second Congregational Church, 485 Washington St., Winchester, MA 01890, on Sat., Sept. 29 at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Second Congregational Church at the address listed above.
