Charles Ohmer Coudert, 87, a longtime resident of Sherborn, Massachusetts and most recently Framingham, Massachusetts, died on September 16, 2018, after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara Sullivan (“Robbie”) Coudert; his parents, Anita O. Coudert and Victor R. Coudert, Sr.; his brother, Victor R. Coudert, Jr.; his sister Marie C. Curry; his brother-in-law John T. Curry, Jr.; and his sister-in-law Cheryl F. Coudert. He is survived by his brother, Rene J. Coudert of Southport, CT; sister-in-law Virginia Beach Coudert of Greenwich, CT; sister-in-law Doris LeBlanc Sullivan of Fairhaven, MA; and was a devoted uncle to his many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Born in Dayton, Ohio on February 26, 1931, he grew up in Greenwich, CT where he sailed with his siblings out of Indian Harbor Yacht Club. He was a graduate of the Canterbury School (1949) and was inducted into the Canterbury Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016 for football. He was deeply involved in the school, served as a Trustee, and received the Canterbury Medal in 2004 for outstanding service to Canterbury. He was a graduate of Yale University (1953) where he played football and was a member of Wolf’s Head. Following his service in the United States Navy he began his career working for the United States Foreign Service and was posted at locations around the world including: Washington, DC; India, Pakistan, Egypt, France, and the United Nations in New York. Charles and Robbie thoroughly enjoyed their postings and made lifelong friends everywhere they lived. He retired from the Foreign Service in 1991. He was a world traveler who also enjoyed sailing and horseback riding. A devout Catholic, he was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and for many years attended St. Theresa of Lisieux Church in Sherborn, MA where he sang in the choir.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 29, at 10:00 A.M., at St. Theresa of Lisieux Church, 35 South Main Street, Sherborn, MA. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
