WORCESTER-Mattheos “Matthew” Batsarisakis, 74, of 6 Woodford Street, died Friday, December 2nd in UMass Hospital. He leaves his wife of 45 years; Penelope (Nikoloudakis) Batsarisakis, a son; Stelianos “Steven" and his wife Christina Batsarisakis of Worcester, 2 daughters; Katherine wife of Stavros Papalionakis of Webster and Kyriaki “Koula” wife of Nick Kazalis of Springfield, 2 brothers; Angelo Barris of St. Petersburg, FL and John Batsarisakis of Germany, 4 grandchildren; Margaret and Nicole Kazalis and Theofanis and Matthew Papalionakis and many nephews and nieces. 2 brothers; Demostenis and Anthony Batsarisakis predeceased him.
He was born in Crete, Greece the son of Stelianos and Kyriaki (Kambarakis) Batsarisakis. He was a Greek Army veteran, Pezeko, serving with the United Nations in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Batsarisakis was employed by Table Talk Pies Incorporated where he worked as a baker for many years, retiring in 1997. Previously he worked as a farmer for 20 years in Greece. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
The funeral is Thursday, December 8th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 7th from 5:00 until 9:00 PM in the funeral home.
