Helena C. Wardan, age 82, of South Yarmouth, passed away on September 18. She was the beloved daughter of the late Stanley and Adelaide (Jankowski) Wardan.
Born in Cambridge, she was raised and educated in Dorchester and Somerville, and was a graduate of Somerville High School. After high school, she went to work for the telephone company, alongside her sister Dorothy. They began as operators and quickly rose up the ranks of employment there.
She and Dorothy devotedly took care of their father for many years, and always doted on their nieces and nephews who lived across the street, until eventually retiring and purchasing a house on the Cape, first in West Yarmouth, and then in South Yarmouth, where they would live out their retirement years.
Helena was a regular on Friday nights at Captain Parker’s in Yarmouth, where she enjoyed gathering with her friends and drinking martinis.
Helena was predeceased by her siblings: Francis X. and his late wife Wanda, Thomas J. and Dorothy M. Wardan, and is survived by her sister-in-law Cynthia M. Wardan of Medford. She was the cherished aunt of Lisa Morey and her husband Bruce of Burlington, Laura Golini and her husband Ron of Medford and Thomas S. Wardan and his wife Lee of Ridgewood, NJ. She was also the loving great-aunt of Diana, Elena and Nicholas Golini, Jessica and Ryan Morey, and is further survived by several special cousins. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 411 Fellsway West, Medford, on Saturday, September 22 @ 10AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, 800 Harvard St., Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
