Obituary

New Bedford – Gordon F. Parsons, 89, of Pine Hill Road, Westport died Thursday, December 1, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jean E. (Smith) Parsons.

He was born in New Bedford, son of the late William F. and Mary A. (Bate) Parsons, and had resided in Westport for the past 65 years. A New Bedford High School graduate, he graduated with a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education from Bridgewater Teachers College. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. Mr. Parsons was a member of the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting, serving as organist for over 60 years. Prior to his retirement, he was a teacher and then became principal of the James B. Congdon Elementary School in New Bedford and also supervised student teachers for University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth for 22 years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing the organ at the Council on Aging Center in Westport for many years.

Including his widow, he is survived by a son: David G. Parsons of Yardley, PA; a daughter: Polly A. Harrison of Westport; a sister: Dorothy Moss of Fairhaven; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Phyllis Grundner.

Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, December 4, 2005 at the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting, Dartmouth at 1:00 P.M.

Calling hours Saturday 5 – 8 P.M.


Interment will be private.
