Obituary

McGillicuddy, Thomas J. 98, of Needham died on August 26, 2018. The son of the late Patrick J. McGillicuddy and Bridget (O’Connor) McGillicuddy, he was happily married to his beloved wife of fifty-four years, the late Mary E. (Curley)and together they raised their family in Needham. He is survived by his four children, Mary Alice Moynahan and her husband Paul of Sandwich, Thomas J.McGillicuddy and his wife Susan of Stow, Andrew MGillicuddy and his wife Laura of Hanover, and Joseph McGillicuddy and his wife Marie of Needham.  Tom and Mary were especially proud of their seventeen grandchildren. Tom was the loving brother of Alice McGillicuddy of Scituate and the late Patricia (McGillicuddy) and Richard Bowen also of Scituate and he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Also, Tom was a special cousin of the late Mary Crowley, John McGillicuddy, M. Rita Condon, Anna Marie McPeak, Thomas F.McGillicuddy, Geraldine Langdon, and Sheila Galligan.

Thomas grew up in Brighton and he spent summers in Scituate. He is a graduate of Boston College High School, the College of the Holy Cross, and Harvard Business School.  Tom served his country in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Dunlap in the Pacific Theater. He then distinguished himself with a long career at Arthur Andersen.  Upon retirement Tom served as a member of the Needham Lions Club and pursued his passion of tennis with many friends.   Tom was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish where he served on the Finance Committee and in the Holy Name Society.  He and Mary served as chairpersons of the 1974 St. Joseph’s  Parish bazaar.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham on Friday, August 31, at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Thursday, August 30, from 4-8pm in the funeral home. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Thomas’ memory to St. Joseph Church, 1382 Highland Ave. Needham, MA 02492.
