Obituary

Margaret M. "Peggy", "Babe" (St. Germain) Cooke, of Onset, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2018 with her loving daughters by her side. She was 85 years young. Born in her family home in Taunton, MA, she was the devoted daughter of the late Margaret A. (Smith) and David W. St. Germain, Sr. She graduated from Taunton High School and the Chamberlain School of Boston. She worked for Dr. Thomas Doherty as a Dental Assistant and then at Pober's Clothing store in Taunton before becoming an employee at the Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant for 31 years. She served as a Board Member of the Taunton Federal Credit Union for 20 years.
Peggy was pre-deceased by her siblings, Eleanor, Richard and David. She is survived by her beloved daughters Christy Cooke of Onset, MA, Suzanne Seekell of Dighton, MA and her great niece, Bethany St. Germain of Providence, RI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Seekell and his fiancé, Kim of Providence, RI, Adam Seekell and his wife Erin of Seekonk, MA, her great grandchildren, Aidan, Logan and Connor and her nephew, Mathew St. Germain. Additionally, she is survived by her close cousins, Virginia Munns of Connecticut and Peter St. Germain of Florida.
Peggy derived much joy from living in Onset in the house fondly known as "The Cottage" that was built by her father when she was 12 years old. Becoming a year-round resident there in 1999, she created a happy and contented life
With a zest for living, she was a 'champion' member in two bowling leagues. She was a member of the Onset Bay Association and volunteered at the voting polls.
She had a close connection with her neighbors and was a strong and loving presence on Cleveland Avenue. Neighbors and friends would often see her enjoying a sail in her small sailboat, The Sunflower, or kayaking around the Bay. It was not unusual to see her mowing the lawn and tending to her gardens in her bathing suit, or briskly shoveling the walk after a fresh snow. Peggy was an avid reader and spent many happy hours enjoying a good book on her deck with her cherished dog buddy by her side. She was a Taunton High School cheerleader and loved dancing, especially the jitterbug. Peggy was very generous hearted and enjoyed taking her family on vacations.
Loyal, Kind and hard working, whenever Babe made commitments, she honored them. Peggy was an independent woman with many strengths; a maverick well admired. Her heart was enormous, maternal and as open as the sky. Her inherent bond with all animals was famous; she provided a safe and loving home for countless dogs, cats and birds. All living creatures found a sweet refuge in her domain. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Visiting hours will be held at The O'Keefe-Wade Funeral Home on 70 Washington St. Taunton, MA on Monday, August 27th from 9:30-11a.m. followed by a prayer service at the Funeral Home.
