NASHUA, NH: George H. Wark, age 85, a resident of Nashua, NH for 15 years, died Friday, November 25, 2005 at his home.
He was the husband of Marjorie (Watt) Wark with whom he celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on April 28, 2005 and the late Margaret (McLaurin) Wark, who died June 4, 1965.
Born in Presque Isle, Maine on March 30, 1920, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Annie (Brown) Wark.
Mr. Wark was raised in Presque Isle, Maine.
He attended Presque Isle schools and graduated from Presque Isle High School.
In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II with the Headquarters Company 713th Railway Battalion. Mr. Wark was awarded several decorations and citations including the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Prior to his retirement in 1973, he was employed as a civilian foreman by the Adjutant General’s Office at Fort Devens in Ayer, MA, where he worked for over 20 years. In addition, he served as a special police officer for the Town of Westford during the late 1970’s.
Mr. Wark was resident of Tewksbury and Westford until moving to Nashua, NH in 1990.
While living in Westford, he attended the Graniteville Methodist Church.
Mr. Wark was a member of the Wamesit Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Tewksbury.
He enjoyed collecting rare coins, collecting and trading firearms and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter; Janet E. Wark of Nashua, NH; his son; Ronald D. Wark and his wife Marcia (Drake); three step-sons; Jeffrey P. Maahs and his wife Linda of Leominster, Thomas A. Maahs of Groton, MA and Peter H. Maahs of North Conway, NH; five grandchildren; David A. Wark and his wife Kelly of Litchfield, NH, Donna L. Wyman and her husband Michael of Fitchburg, Shawn G. Wark and his wife Kristen of Leominster, Rebecca A. Wark of Fitchburg and Christine A. Forgues of Gardner; 13 great grandchildren; close friends; Ric Ouellet of Gardner and David Smith of Lowell; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mr. Wark was pre-deceased by his son; Shanning Wark, seven sisters and three brothers.
Calling hours Wednesday, November 30th from 4-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, immediately followed by a prayer service to be held at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery will be held at a later date.
