Westport – Marlene F. (King) Harrington, 68, of Westport died accidentally from a fire in her home, Wednesday, November 23, 2005. She was the widow of Richard T. “Dick” Harrington, Sr.
She was born in Fall River, daughter of the late Lester “Tommy” King and Emelia O. (Vaillancourt) King, and had resided in Westport for the last 41 years. Early in her youth she had trained as a swimmer to swim the English Channel. She attended the Union Hospital School of Nursing and worked as an operating room technician there. Mrs. Harrington worked for many years in a family restaurant business and later as a real estate broker in the area for 14 years.
She was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport where she was a member of the St. George Womens Guild, serving as secretary. She was a member of the Westport Grange, Bishop Stang Booster Club and served as an advisor for Junior Achievement in New Bedford. Mrs. Harrington was also instrumental in helping to establish the first Citizens for Citizens Group in Westport. She leaves behind the people she loves most, her family!
She is survived by 2 sons: Richard T. Harrington, Jr. of Westport and Kevin M. Harrington and his wife Laura of Westport; a daughter: Melony F. Kenyon of Westport; a sister: Norma Lee of Michigan; 4 grandchildren: Thomas, Keegan, Katelyn and Erinn; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the unexpected nature of her passing, the family will plan a memorial service later in the spring.
