Gertrude W. (Wood) Libby, a 90 year resident of Stoughton, passed away on Monday November 21, 2005 at the Forestview Nursing And Rehabilitation Center in Wareham. She was 102 years young. She was the loving wife of the late Carl F. Libby.
Born March 9, 1903 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Clara (Foxen) Wood.
Mrs. Libby attended Chelsea Public Schools.
She moved to Stoughton with her family in 1915 and graduated from Stoughton High School.
She was a dedicated housewife and mother.
Mrs. Libby was a member and attended The First Parish Universalist Church in Stoughton. She was very active with many of the church’s activities and events.
She loved to travel and had the opportunity to see various parts of the world with her late husband many times.
She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis A. Batchelder of Stoughton and Barbara L. Sleeper of Boylston. She was also a mother to the late Herbert F. Libby. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Denison of Pennsylvania, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton on Friday November 25, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. The Reverend Jeffrey Symynkywicz Pastor of The First Parish Universalist Church Of Stoughton, officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
At the family’s request, visiting hours have been omitted.
