Ormon T. Bibbs age 92 of Salem, NH, died Friday at his home in Salem.
He was born in Tennessee, at age 12 he moved to Kentucky. He lived in several New England towns, before moving to Salem, NH 50 years ago.
Ormon was known as “Mr. B. The Apple Man” he often gave Mutsu Apples as gifts.
Ormon worked at Rockingham Race Track in Salem, NH in Security. He also worked as a Groomsman, and exercise rider. He also did some horse training. Mr. Bibbs was a retired truck driver and worked for the Teamsters. Mr. Bibbs served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, where he was on Liberty Ships and Oil Tankers from Europe to Boston, and served on the Narluna, which was his first ship that got torpedoed traveling from Greenland to Iceland.
Ormon’s greatest love of all was horses and horse racing, and spent his life following the horses across the country. He especially loved Rockingham Park. He enjoyed Sammy J’s Diner and the Weathervane Restaurant. He was know for his kindness and generosity, and a tip of his hat with a polite how are you.
He is survived by many friends, including Cheryl Dowling-Taylor & Norm Taylor of Haverhill, MA.
Calling hours will be held Monday, November 28, 2005 from 9-11 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM at the Douglas & Johnson Funereal Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH.
Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
