John Sherman Coker was born in Water Valley, MS on June 9, 1949, and died on Monday, November 21, 2005, at his home in Southaven, MS.
The visitation will be held at the Southaven Church of Christ Tuesday, November 22, 2005 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Southaven Church of Christ Wednesday, November 23, 2004 at 10:00 am, with Brother David Jones, Brother Wayne Jones, Brother Joe Ruiz, and Brother B.J. Clarke presiding. The committal will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley, MS Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Dan Cooper Trey Agner, Terry Harris, Vern Scrimsher, Tommy Eaton, and Gary Barch serving as active pallbearers and Don Ward, Con Lambert, Larry Everson, and Bill Pierce serving as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Coker worked in the field of Nuclear Medicine and was a member of the Southaven Church of Christ. He served for 26 as a deacon within the church. He also served in the National Guard.
Mr. Coker was preceded in death by his father Buck Coker. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Coker of Southaven, MS; a daughter, Christy Robin Huff and son-in-law Steven Huff of Fayette, AL; a son Sean William Coker of Southaven, MS ; his mother, Bertha Lou Coker McCullar and step-father Roland McCullar of Water Valley, MS; a brother, Bob Coker of Water Valley, MS, a step-brother, Scotty McCullar of Union City, TN; a step-sister, Sue Ray of Union City, TN; and three grandchildren, Catherine Coker, Hunter Huff and John Michael Huff.
John found out that he had ALS on April 7, 2003 and fought a hard battle with the disease until his death. The family request any memorials be made to: ALS Association, TN Chapter, P.O. Box 40244, 522 East Iris Drive, Nashville, TN 37204.
