Sheila (Foley) Fleming, of Newton Upper Falls passed away Monday at home surrounded by her family. Sheila was born in London, England, August 20, 1935, the first of 8 siblings. During WWII Sheila spent many of her days gathering up her younger brothers and sisters to find safety in air raid shelters. In 1951 Sheila met and fell in love with Mick Fleming, of Gneeveguilla, County Kerry, he had traveled from Ireland to London to find work. Mick became part of Sheila’s family and for six years enjoyed the comfort of an Irish family in London. In April 1957 Sheila and Mick changed the course of their lives. They moved to Boston, and married on November 30th of that same year at the Mission Hill Church in Roxbury. They lived in Roxbury, Allston and finally settled in Newton, where they raised their four children. A true entrepreneur, Sheila established two successful businesses, Sheila’s Alterations and Sheila’s Day Care. Her work for 20 years as a Day Care Provider was most rewarding; she not only enriched the lives of the children left in her care but also their entire families. Visits from Sheila’s day care children have continued over the years and have been cherished by both Mick and Sheila. She is survived by her husband of 48 years. Michael Fleming, her children Mary Marks and her husband Don of Marshfield, Michael P. and his wife Lisa of Newton, Kathleen Fleming of Newton and Denis and his wife Kristin of Stoughton. She was the much loved grandmother of Sarah and Kerry Fleming and step grandmother of Ashley Marks. She is also survived by her sisters Maureen Lattimer, Eileen Pearson and Liz Foley, her brothers Denis, Jerry and Michael Foley all of England and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave. Needham on Sat Nov 26 at 9:15 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, Newton Upper Falls, at 10:15 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Fri from 4-8 PM.
