Obituary

James F. Layton, 63, of Lakeland, FL, died Monday, November 21, 2005 in the Good Shepard Hospice in Lakeland. Mr. Layton was born in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA on May 12, 1942, a son of the late Charles F. and Lena M. (Jay) Layton Sr. He was a resident of Lakeland since retiring in 2003. He formerly lived in Nashua, NH and grew up in Tampa, FL. He was a 1960 graduate of Plant High School and a member of the USF charter graduating class in 1963. He received his Masters in Education from the University of California. Mr. Layton was a retired Air Force Lt. Col. and was a Vietnam veteran. His decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service medal, Combat Readiness Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three silver stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Senior Missile Operations badge.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Layton of Lakeland, FL, two sons, Michael F. Layton of Dover, NH, Scott F. Layton of Rockland, ME, one daughter, Patricia F. Young of Savannah, GA, two stepsons, Eric J. Svenson of Chesapeake, VA, Marc F. Svenson of Haymarket, VA, seven grandchildren, Ryan, Hannah, Holly, Heather, Carter, Grant and Ryder, two brothers, William F. Layton of Lakeland, and Charles F. Layton Jr. of Fort Worth, TX,
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 10:00am in the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry, NH. Calling hours were Tuesday, November 29th from 5 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Lakeland, FL 33823.
