Obituary

Charles “Easy” Ysewyn, 86, died on July 9, 2018 surrounded by family. Predeceased by parents John and Helen; wife, Verna; brother, Freddie; relatives Homer, Kurt and Mary. Charlie enlisted in the US Army as a radio repairman. He met Verna while stationed in Europe. After a few dates, they married. He said their love spanned two continents. Charlie earned a Bachelor of Science at Trenton State College. Then a Master of Science (PE) at Indiana University.

Charles is survived by his children Karen, Linda, Janet (Shari), Douglas and Laura (Michael); grandkids Oliver, Nicholas, Marissa, Zander, Thomas, Daniel, Victoria, Samantha, Clark, Reid, Kellan, Grayson; three nephews and a niece and their families. Some of his favorite people include Aunt Betty, Aunt Helen, Maureen, Sarah, Mark and Margaret, Dave, Ed, Fred, Wallace Cove neighbors, and bocce pals. The family gives special thanks to Dr. Gates, Hospice, and his caregivers.

For 30 years, Charlie taught Health/PE and coached baseball and basketball at Fitch Junior High. He also coached American Legion baseball. He worked part-time for “the Day” newspaper and had his own lawn business. He was a VFW member. He was fond of summers in Maine and winters in Myrtle Beach, jogging, reading, crossword puzzles, dogs, cigars, a shot of whisky and woodworking. He loved watching the Yankees, the Patriots, Matt Harvey and the movie “Shane”. Thriving on coffee and cookies, he was organized and hard working. Persistent in spirit, Charlie lived at least nine lives. He is remembered as committed to his family while taking a simple approach to living a full life.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13, at 5:30pm at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 284 Stoddard’s Wharf Road, Gales Ferry, CT . Burial will be private.
