DUDLEY – Josephine F. “Josie” (Kondek) Grzych, 96, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, in Harrrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge after a short illness. Her husband of 61 years, Walter F. “Pop” Grzych died in 2007.
She leaves 2 sisters, Charlotte Carpick and her husband Louis of Dudley, and Genevieve Pioppi and her husband Bill of Sturbridge; a brother-in-law, Thaddeus Lesniewski of Southbridge; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Charles, Louis, Walter, John and Henry Kondek and by 2 sisters, Stasia Balkurna and Joanne Lesniewski.
She was born in Webster on March 15, 1922, the daughter of Stanley and Frances (Nycek) Kondek and lived in Dudley since 1928.
Mrs. Grzych first worked as a French cord presser for Webster Shoe Company for 31 years, retiring in 1979. She then was a lens cutter at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, retiring in 1979.
She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Bobola Church where she volunteered to work in the kitchen at the parish festivals for many years. She enjoyed gardening.
The funeral will be held Saturday, June 16, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Visiting hours will be from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Saturday in the funeral home, prior to the Mass.
