James S. Chapman age 82 of Brockton died Wed. June 6, 2018 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Nashua, NH and raised in Brockton, a son of the late James and A. Rose (Lizotte) Chapman and attended Brockton schools.
Jim had worked for many years in the city shoe industry and spent many years at Knapp Shoe and Foot Joy retiring in 2008. In his free time, Jim enjoyed gardening and wood working and was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and loved ones. He will be remembered as a man who was generous to the point that he would give you his last dollar.
Jim is survived by his five children, Bonnie Gagne and her husband Brian of Brockton, James Chapman of Brockton, Michael Chapman and his fiancée Audra Peterson of Lakeville, Ronald Chapman and his wife Linda of Middleboro and Joseph Chapman of Brockton. He was the brother of Russell Chapman and his wife June of N. Easton, Wayne Chapman and his late wife Nancy of Halifax, Shirley Ackerblom and her late husband Sidney of Bourne, the late Joyce Murphy of Florida and the late Paul Chapman of Texas. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Monday 5-7pm followed by a funeral service. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery Tuesday morning. Please consider a donation in Jim’s name to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379.
