BOSTON--George F. Harrington, 74, a resident of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Lowell and Tyngsboro, died Tuesday evening, November 15th, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston.
Born in Lowell on August 5, 1931, he was a son of the late William and Katherine (Mahoney) Harrington. He was educated in the Lowell Public Schools and attended Fitchburg State College.
Mr. Harrington was a United States Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War Era. He was a carpentry teacher at the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational School for many years. Mr. Harrington was later promoted to an Administration position as a Cluster Chairman at the School. He retired in 1995.
Mr. Harrington was longtime member of the Lowell V.F.W. Post 662, the Lowell Lodge of Elks #87, and a member of the Teachers Union. He committed a great deal of time in his retirement years to volunteer efforts affiliated with his various fraternal organizations including the Loyal Order of Moose in Fort Myers, FL.
He is survived by three sons, Robert, and his wife Anne, Harrington of Cape Neddick, ME; Jeffrey Harrington, of San Francisco, CA; and Brian, and his wife Marianne, Harrington of Cape Elizabeth, ME; four grandchildren: Alissa, Katherine, Thomas and Andrew Harrington all of ME; his former wife: Iola (Constantineau) Harrington; two brothers: William, and his wife Eleanor, Harrington, of Lowell; and Jeremiah, and his wife Alice, Harrington of Fort Thomas, KY; a sister: Anne Carribas, of Lowell; also several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Harrington who died in 2005.
His Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 1 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38), Lowell. Relatives and friends invited. There will be no calling hours.
