John "Gussie" Hougasian, 91, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Radius Healthcare Center. His wife, Hilda (Lofgren) Hougasian, died in 1980. He was born on May 7, 1914, in Kharpert, Armenia, a son of Dickran and Haiganoush (Atamian) Hougasian and survived the Genocide of Armenian People by the Turkish Ottoman in 1915. He worked at Hanson Tool & Die and Franzen Shoe & Slipper companies. He was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, AACC, and was an avid walker.
He is survived by nieces, Linda Donoian of Holden, Lisa Thomas of Worcester, Zarri Dhembe of Sturbridge, and Irene Hougasian of Inglewood, CA; nephews, Mark Jorjorian of Lexington and Richard Hougasian of Thompson, CT; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, Nov. 18, in Armenian Church of Our Saviour. Calling Hours will be held in the church at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral at 12 p.m. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. Worcester MA 01609. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, is directing arrangements.
